
Upper Valley Farm to School Internship
Vital Communities engages Upper Valley people, organizations, and communities to create equitable solutions to our region’s challenges, with a focus on those disproportionately impacted by them. This position will mostly work within the Upper Valley Farm to School Network, with the goal of bringing together educators, farmers, and community members to build and maintain farm to school efforts in the classrooms, cafeterias, and communities of our region.
Expected responsibilities:
- Compiling/developing farm to school curriculum
- Communicate with food system and farm to school stakeholders
- Aggregating resources for educators to access on the Farm to School website
- Working collaboratively and independently in school gardens
Specific skills/interest we are looking for:
- Eager to learn
- Confidence
- Interest in education (teaching, curriculum, working with children of all ages)
- Verbal and written communication
- Organization
- Ability to follow through on tasks
- Knowing their way around a garden is a plus!
Skills you will learn and practice:
- Small scale food production
- Navigating state standards and district curriculum
- Identifying gaps and opportunities in food system education
This position is part of a cohort of 12 interns working with organizations that support the White River Valley Community Schools. Funded by the UVM Leahy Institute for Rural Partnerships, free housing for interns will be provided at Vermont Technical College in Randolph, VT. Interns will participate in a week-long community orientation, weekly intern cohort workshops for professional development, networking, and reflection and a final sharing event on Monday, August 4, 5:30-7 pm.
